TO MAKE A DIY NINJA STAFF you’ll need a 3-foot length of 3/4 PVC pipe or 3/4-inch dowel (whichever is cheaper) and 3-feet of foam pipe insulation. Let your little ninja decorate the nunchucks with washi tape. Repeat with the other end of the rope and piece of insulation. Hot glue one end of the rope approximately one-inch inside of the insulation tubing. It is a good idea to burn the ends of the polyester rope to keep from fraying. We purchased the supplies at a home improvement store. TO MAKE KIDS NINJA NUNCHUCKS you will need two, 8-inch pieces of foam pipe insulation and one 10-inch piece of 3/4-inch rope (this will make one set of kids nunchucks). They are so easy to make we let every kids have a pair and they got to decorate their set with washi tape. Barring a good whack in the eye, they won’t really do any damage. The DIY Nunchuks have nothing rigid inside the padding so the kids can have more leeway with those.We used a couple ninja staffs at our ninja party for a controlled, joust-style party game, rather than making one for every guest - that just seems to be asking for trouble!
We think the Ninja Staff works better for the Halloween Kids Ninja costume where there won’t be lots of ninjas tempted to really duke it out.
SUPER MOM COSTUME HOW TO
While both of these pretend ninja weapons are padded for safety, please be sure to instruct your kids how to safely use them before playing. CAUTION: HOW TO USE THESE PLAY NINJA WEAPONS SAFELY At our Ninja party we made each of our kid ninjas their own set of these kid-friendly DIY Nunchucks. Harrison posed here in his ninja costume with our easy DIY Ninja Staffs made using a very similar technique to the Easy Kid Nunchuks shown below. To complete your Kids Ninja Costume, pick one of these fun and kid-safe DIY ninja weapons. Your ninja outfit is almost there, but I am guessing now your little ninja is going to want some good ninja weapons. I know I’m biased, but I think Harrison makes the cutest little ninja! We’re showing this as a boy ninja costume but of course this would be perfect for girl ninjas too! FOR THE NINJA PANTS: this is the super-easy part! If you have sweat pants with a gathered cuff you can consider cutting the cuff off.Cut off the cuff on each of the sleeves, and you’re done! Repeat for the left flap and then cut the collar off completely. Now take the right flap and about six inches from the top, cut at a slight angle up to the collar. FOR THE NINJA KIMONO TOP: place the t-shirt on a flat surface and using sharp scissors cut straight up the front middle of the shirt.(You can also buy felt at Walmart in the fabric section.) FOR THE NINJA BELT: I cut a 3-inch wide strip of black felt.Here’s how to make the components of this ninja outfit: (I picked up Harrison’s at Walmart.) IMPORTANT: you will want a looser fit so get a long-sleeve shirt a couple sizes larger than your child actually wears.
